about

The idea for this album came from Victor Olăhuţ who in 2011 had proposed making the play "Fisura" by Flavius Lucăcel into a full fledged musical.

I really thought it would be easy to make that play into a musical. We both did. And we worked really hard to prove that.

The play was written in Romanian, and all songs have an original Romanian text, but I have translated them for this record.

The story is about Mickey and Annie, an old couple with an exceptional love for pickles, whose lives get disrupted by the appearance of a sudden crack on the wall of their beloved pantry.

When the crack threatens to destroy their very livelihood, they must take every measure to stop it.

But what unseen enemy can cause such great damage? Is it the trains, the dreaded car traffic or the tram? Whichever foe they might face, they are ready to take action!

Gogu is the officer in charge of investigating the train and tram derailments who meets Marina at the old couples home while she gets her future read by Annie.

Things just get more comical from here.

about

Indie Folker Romania

Indie Folker is very much like Iron & Wine without the iron or Noah And The Whale without the whale… In plain: music inspired by the folkers and anti-folkers, or in a broader spectrum: indie folk, homemade acoustic pop or just plain old folk rock music from the bird house. Drawing comparison to such imaginary singers and performers such as: Tom Waits on high heels, a more scrupulous and much young ... more

Track Name: Today Is A Fine Day (Song Of The Dead Guitar Player In Hell)
today is a fine day
the full moon's in it's reign
and all's full of light
full of cocaine

I went down to the pantry
it's such a fabulous swing
to put a roap 'round your neck
and then die from the string

someone has filled up for me,
my dear old caring mother,
ten large cleared shelves
just with pickled peppers

the ten small ones over there
are all full of rind
you could eat them down to the bone
or at least you'd be inclined

as I hung upon there in the yarn
meditating at the World
I have felt an easy breeze
between my legs unfurl

but wait, I'm floating in the mist
the boat is full and leaving shore
I hear the bark of dogs resound
faces of old in the decor

I am long since past the Sun
the Great Bear constellation
I've past Heaven, the recumbent
hence, my final station:

Hell is the last place I see
they jump out of the boat after me
an old woman, an old man
holdin' hands, holdin' hands

he is glad that on the barge
he's got thousands of tomatoes, large
as his pride when he splits them apart
slice after slice, he shares them with heart

happy that the fire's burning
they fill hundreds of the boilers there
and they start chopping at the cargo
and all they've found in the devil's lair
Track Name: A Life Without Pickles (Mickey And Annie's Song)
ANNIE:

a life without pickles
tell me what's it good for?
if you're only having biscuits -
that's a life I would abhor

when I was a younger maiden
often I'd remark it:
the cucumbers would all awaken
as I passed through the market

it is then that I have met him
right there by the grocer
my runty man, so full of life
resembling a dozer

MICKEY:

I proudly drew my carriage
looking for some greens
my foot touched her oh so gently
it was unforeseen

the celery and cabbage piles
started copulating
'told her I'm a man of culture
her heart just started melting

railwayman, just like my father
in the railcars I've determined
how to translate for the ladies
first from French and then from German

I had often read aloud
by the windows, doors and closets
honestly, I was disgusted
by all those semiconscious starlets

ANNIE:

a life without preservatives
would be all but fluff
from my tiny pantry
I've given quite enough

MICKEY:

she welcomed me into her larder
although shy, she grabbed a knife
and opened up tomato sauce
so I made her my wife

ANNIE:

I said YES, though I admit
the sauce was kind of salty

MICKEY:

it was New Year's Eve, I think
she yawned of melancholy

ANNIE:

oh, how the years have passed since
around the house I've functioned

MICKEY:

I'm at the market every morning
without interruption

MICKEY AND ANNIE TOGETHER:

a life without pickles
is a tragedy
if you've got jars, we'll collect
and pay handsomely

but we only take the ones with lids
the kind you can unscrew
we'll be waiting in the park
after luncheon - thank you!
Track Name: No One On Board (Annie's Song)
wait and the tides of luck will surely start changing soon
we'll no longer be like we are today
we'll no longer be like we are today

so don't be in a rush and don't you start to give up
but stop breaking me down
just look at the shape we are in
just look at the shape we are in

I've told you once, we really don't need this
to be quite this way, overexposed
here comes the tram, it's already leaving
and there's no one left, no one on board

wait and the tides of luck will surely start changing soon
we'll no longer be like we are today
we'll no longer be like we are today

I've told you once, we really don't need this
to be quite this way, overexposed
here comes the tram, it's already leaving
and there's no one left, no one on board

here comes the tram, it's already leaving
and there's no one left, no one on board
and there's no one left, no one on board
and there's no one left, no one on board
Track Name: In The Dumpster Light (Mickey's Song)
everything's on track
the plan is dynamite
I will hide when it gets back
in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light

the night has already cracked
and I am still on the lookout
I put screws on the tracks
cause I don't see a way out

my hands smell like gasoline
oil sets my hair alight
but I'll keep hiding 'til it gets back
in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light
oh, in the dumpster light

no one really knows how I'm feelin'
and no one really cares but I guess I'll show them
no one really knows how I'm feelin'
and no one really cares but I guess I'll show them

in the moonlight the ghouls are waking
but they don't bother me, they know
I come here every night 'til breaking
dawn, to prey upon that shadow

everything's on track
the plan is dynamite
I will hide when it gets back
in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light

oh, in the dumpster light
yeah in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light

yeah in the dumpster light
yeah in the dumpster light
in the dumpster light
Track Name: If There Would Be A Saboteur (Gogu's Song)
If there would be a saboteur
I don't think I could catch him unaware
Don't think there is, but if there would be
I wonder what that would mean for me

'Cause I can't go on no more
I can't go on no more
Looking like a slob
When I can sleep on the job

So if there would be a saboteur
I don't believe I could catch him unaware

But if there would be a saboteur
I could outmanoeuvre that prankster
So if there is, it's not a quiz
My mission would be easier than this

And I don't feel like it
Really don't feel like it
Won't be made into a fool
By a stubborn buffoon

So if there would be a saboteur
I could outmanoeuvre that prankster

But if there would be a saboteur
Though I hardly think that could occur
Don't think there is, but if there would be
Just think of what that would mean for me

Look I am oh so ill
And I am lazy still
I live like a lord
I'm only a cop when I'm bored

And still there is a saboteur
I wonder how I could catch him unaware
I wonder how I could catch him unaware
I wonder how I could catch him unaware
